Wife-able Wednesday: Fruit of the Spirit

DSC_4807.JPG
I saw the seeds of impatience bare fruit in me,
Headstrong to the harvest of unkindness,
Lacking a gentle response when intercepted by strain.
Always remember the core, the beginning, the planting, the nurturing,
The time when you turned your head from the set path,
Caught a glimpse of beauty hoped-for,
The times may change but you know what you saw,
You know the seed planted years before,
When you return it was mature and immovable,
Standing tall and rooted in the splendor of a setting sun,
Was it a truly beautiful tree or diseased and disguised in the darkness:
Of a day that was done?

Many things in your life will reveal to you the substance of your character I think relationships have a really powerful way of doing that. The meeting point of two personalities, the close quarters, the proximity to spot and point out all your flaws. Marriage being one of the most intimate human relationships can be like a refinery for the spirit either producing beautifully crafted unions and choice specimen or it can expose the impurity of heart you each bring to the table. What you do when faced with this reality is critical and can make or break all of our relationships even marriage. You must always remember how Christ dealt with you and try to treat others in the same manner. Albeit with supernatural help from him. I admit I fail horribly sometimes in showing others the fruit of the Holy spirit but it breaks my heart and I know I need to improve. So do we all. I think about the fact that when I was a sinner Christ died for me :0 When I was not worth loving: He loved me without restrain. Why is it so hard for us humans to do this also? A    lot of people chose to run away at the first sign of difficulty. Okay granted there are some things we should not stand for and must run far from but what about the peeves? The little things that brew and wreak havoc? How do we handle this? When lets say my future husband doesn’t  do something he was supposed to do will I treat him harshly ? If a person responds to me in a way that gets on my last nerve will I be gentle, loving and patient? In my own strength I cannot guarantee a favorable outcome. I can however trust God to change me and to help me see others as he sees them and to treat them in a manner pleasing to Him.

What you sow you certainly will reap. It’s so important to prune and cultivate the seeds of the fruit you need in your life, otherwise you will be left with only weeds. They say you start to look like the person you dwell most closely with. Sometimes couples even start to look like each other. I want to be a person that abides in Christ so much that I start to resemble him. I have much pushing forward toward the mark of this high calling to do.

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

So today I’m meditating on these fruit.

How can I choose love even when a person/I am not lovable?
How can I make the joy of the Lord my strength?
How can I pursue peace and follow it?
How can I be patient when others drive me up a wall?
How can I be kind when someone has not been kind to me?
How can I do good when it's taken advantage of or not appreciated?
How can I continue to be faithful in the little things?
How can I be gentle without seeming like a push over?
How can I have self-control when every fiber of me wants to do what it wants?

So how can I cultivate the seeds of the fruit of the spirit rather than my dying flesh ? I must reject my natural fleshly tendencies and choose to follow Christ instead. It means its no longer I that live but Christ that lives in me. I’m asking for him to soften my heart so that I will allow the Holy Spirit to teach me in every moment of my life. The answer for me is in the Holy Spirit within me. If I would just be still and listen I will be directed in the right way to act in all things. If I laid down the law of life and walked by the spirit I would see Christ’s hand pruning the fruit field. So today can we be fruitful? Galatians 5:24-26 (ESV)24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

What are you reaping?

“All of us are planting something in our lives every single day, whether we realize it or not. and we are also reaping whatever we have planted in the past. The quality of our lives right now is the result of what we planted and harvested some time before. We reap the good and the bad for years after we have sown. That is why it is so important to plant and nurture the right seeds now”
